Choosing the Right Conveyor: How to Match Your Stackers, Screens, and Unloaders for Maximum Efficiency
Share
When it comes to material handling, every second, and every ton, counts. But what often holds operations back isn’t labor or location. It’s misalignment: equipment that wasn’t designed to work together.
At Iron City Supply, we help operations stay ahead by offering conveyor systems that are built to fit. Here’s how you can ensure your stackers, screens, and unloaders are optimized for flow, not failure.
Start with the Stackers
Radial stackers are the workhorses of stockpiling. But choosing the wrong length, belt width, or power source can choke production before you even begin.
Tip: Match your stacker size to your site footprint and desired stockpile shape. We build from 40’ to 150’ with power travel, cleated belts, and hydraulic lift options.
Screens: Flow is Everything
Screens are only as efficient as the conveyor feeding them. Oversized feed angles or incompatible belt speeds can cause spillage, slowdown, or even breakdowns.
Tip: Ensure consistent belt speed from your stacker or jump conveyor. Pairing screen and feed heights can minimize drop zones, and reduce wear.
When to Use Jump Conveyors
Need to change direction or elevation in a tight spot? Jump conveyors (a.k.a. “grasshopper conveyors”) are your go-to. But placement is key.
Tip: Use them to bridge mobile and stationary equipment—or to feed unloaders without bottlenecks.
Unloaders: Don’t Let the Pit Hold You Back
From truck to rail to grain unloading, the right setup keeps product moving, not waiting.
Tip: Our rail and truck unloaders can move 15,000 tons/hour.
Pulling It All Together
The best conveyor system isn’t the biggest, it’s the best-matched. That means designing with your entire flow in mind: from first load to final stockpile.
Tip: Let your layout dictate your conveyor, not the other way around.
